National Organizations

National Institutes of Health

°Õ³ó±ðÌýÌý(NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is really 27 separate research institutes and centers, constituting the world’s largest source of funding for medical research in the world. With millions of dollars in NIH funding, Nemours researchers in the Delaware Valley and Florida are actively engaged in a wide range of studies and trials that can lead to significant advances for children.

Centers for Disease Control

°Õ³ó±ðÌýÌý(CDC) is dedicated to protecting health and promoting quality of life through the prevention and control of disease, injury and disability. While much of the CDC’s activity focuses on prevention programs, the agency provides grants that assist research organizations that contribute to the CDC′s mission through health information dissemination, preparedness, prevention, research and surveillance.

Muscular Dystrophy Association

°Õ³ó±ðÌýÌýis the world’s leading nonprofit health organization sponsoring research seeking the causes of and effective treatments for neuromuscular diseases. MDA research grants currently are supporting more than 250 projects worldwide. In addition to basic research, the MDA funds numerous translational research projects, which move promising new drug therapies into the clinic as rapidly and efficiently as possible and address critical weaknesses in the drug development process for rare diseases.

National Cancer Institute

°Õ³ó±ðÌýÌý(NCI) is a division of the National institutes of Health that focuses on cancer. NCI’s current research funding zeroes in on three important factors that affect many types of cancers:

  • Circulating tumor cellsÌý— understanding how tumors metastasize
