About the Translational Rheumatology Lab

Under the direction of AnneMarie Brescia, MD, the Translational Rheumatology Lab focuses on research activities that can directly lead to new and effective treatment options for children with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA, formerly known as Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis) as well as Lyme arthritis.

The lab is part of the Center for Applied Clinical Genomics atNemours Children’s Hospital, Delawarein Wilmington, Del. Our work has led to a number of publications and patents.

Current Research Interests & Projects

Our current research efforts seek to:

  • Discover novel biomarkers for prognosis of JIA
  • Elucidate signaling pathways that are dysregulated and contribute to the pathogenesis of JIA
  • Characterize fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) cultured from human synovial fluid to determine what role FLS play in the pathogenesis of JIA
  • Characterize FLS from acute and chronic Lyme arthritis
